Mental health in the workplace: thriving at work

Celebrating International Women's Day
With more women than ever before (24%) working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) things are on the rise for gender balance in STEM. A long way is still to go in terms of recognition of research, and accessibility to publication. We have chosen to celebrate the magnificent, intelligent women who have radically challenged traditional neuroscience, to help shape our business.

Our Commitment to Privacy and Data Protection
Data protection is something we take very seriously. Working with many different organisations to collect the data of staff to understand the level of organisational wellbeing using our tool CARI means it is at the forefront of our concern. We therefore want to share with you our process and storage of data, to be completely transparent so you can be assured of no funny business...

Working as a coach for the Maria Paviour Company
This month we are shining a spotlight on Nicky Thomas. Nicky has trained through the School of NeuChem Coaching, and is now regularly coaching in large organisations for the Maria Paviour Company. This month, Nicky has been working in the Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust NHS, where we delivered our Care and Resiliance Index (CARI) survey to 9000 members of staff. She has been interpreting this data, and coaching those with low levels of wellbeing.

BBC NHS Pay Settlement: Our 2 cents
This month a deal between union leaders and ministers has been formally agreed, indicating not only a pay rise for staff, but also included "a commitment on both sides to reduce the high rate of sickness absence in the NHS"
What does this mean? Will this be just another case of picking people back up once they have become absent? Or will this focus on prevention. The NHS need to look how presenteeism, the precurser to absence is being allowed to happen. With annual cost of poor mental health reaching £43billion a year in absence, this is not something to be ignored. Check out our free white paper for more on this topic.

    This month we're reading...
No is Not Enough, Naomi Klein
"Aibileen is a black maid in 1962 Jackson, Mississippi, who’s always taken orders quietly, but lately she’s unable to hold her bitterness back. Her friend Minny has never held her tongue but now must somehow keep secrets about her employer that leave her speechless. White socialite Skeeter just graduated college. She’s full of ambition, but without a husband, she’s considered a failure. Together, these seemingly different women join together to write a tell-all book about work as a black maid in the South, that could forever alter their destinies and the life of a small town…"
